Webinar on Project Sparrow - Rocket on liquid fuel by students of TU Delft

Image
16 September 2021    20:00 - 21:00 Project Sparrow is the newest full-time team of student association Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering, also known as DARE. Last year the team spent time on developing an engine that does not work on solid content but on liquid fuel like ethanol or hydrogen combined with liquid oxygen . Founded in 2001, DARE has been designing, building, and launching rockets for over 20 years and during this time they have broken the altitude record for a student build rocket multiple times! However, Project Sparrow is looking beyond just breaking the altitude record again, the team aims to develop a rocket with the capability of going orbital in the next few years! This would be the first time a student team is even allowed to attempt such a feat and it depends completely on the motivation, endurance and sheer will power of the 40 students working on the project. Last year the students fully focussed on building the most complex part of the ro...

EDTA/ Eurodefense remarks on the Action plan of the European Commission on synergies between civil, defence and space industries

EU reference COM(2021) 70 dated 22 February 2021 EDTA and Eurodefense welcome this important Communication of the European Commission on their Action plan to increase the synergies between civil, defence and space industries. It is well understood that this action plan is only applicable for programmes of the European Commission, but even within that scope, it is important to recognise the major differences between civil industry and defence-and-space industries. Defence and space industries are strongly dependent on (national) government funding and operate in an environment that reflects this strong dependence. Civil industries however are driven by international market conditions, where entrepreneurship, opportunities and risks are the primary factors for success. In all realism, the Action plan does not seem to take these completely different environments as starting point to create synergy, but argues mainly from a government type funding perspective. To engage civil i...
